Free Garden Workshops Are Beginning In October

Workshop 1: All you need to know about planting a vege patch from seeds

When: Saturday, 7th October, 1:00 - 2:30pm

Where: Ohinemutu Community Garden, at the Recreation Reserve, end of Arataua Street

Cushla Paice is a passionate gardener who will run a practical session on the sowing, care and harvest of heritage edible plants from seed. Take home seed pots ready to plant out in your own garden.

 

Workshop 2: Hands-on planting - how to successfully plant a kumara patch

When: Saturday, 14th October, 1:00-2:00pm

Where: Rotorua Community Youth Centre, 6 Te Ngae Road

This is a workshop not to be missed. Local gardening expert Bernie Hohnfeck will share his knowledge on how to plant a kumara patch. This is truly hands on so be prepared to get your hands dirty.

 

Workshop 3: Natural fertilisers

When: Saturday, 28th October, 1:00-2:00pm

Where: Aspen Community Garden, Aspen Reserve, Aspen Place

Come and learn how to use common household waste products to make your own no cost fertilisers. Your vege crop will be the envy of your neighbours. This workshop is run by two of the Community Garden's wonderful volunteers Jeanette and Katherine.

 

Workshop 4: Natural sprays to deter garden pests

When: Saturday, 4th November, 1:00pm

Where: Aspen Community Garden, Aspen Reserve, Aspen Place

This is where you come to learn about how to control those pests that keep eating your vegetables. Learn how to make sprays from common household ingredients which are gentle on our environment.

Stay tuned for information about the complementary festival activities being planned for exhibiting gardens during the 3-day festival weekend itself. The programme will include a range of music, dance, arts and crafts displays, and stalls.
